New York Film Academy - one of the best film schools in the world!

Filmmaking demands the integration of many kinds of knowledge.

Founded ten years ago, the New York Film Academy balances in-class instruction by award-winning filmmakers with an intense exploration of the medium through practical, hands-on work.

Workshops in 16mm, 35mm and digital video are all available. The schedule is fast-paced, and students shoot their own first film by the end of the first week. Each student goes through the entire filmmaking process - writing, producing, directing, and editing each film, then screening it and engaging in constructive discussion and critique. For many students, the time and tuition required to complete a four-year university program are impractical burdens. NYFA provides the instruction, equipment and structure, and it is the students' drive and creative ability that carries them forward. Workshops are designed for students with little or no filmmaking experience. Advanced programs are also available (see workshops below). Faculty is made up of award-winning filmmakers with MFA's from the top film schools, like NYU, Columbia, USC, and UCLA. The New York Film Academy also has more film equipment than any other film school. Check http://www.nyfa.com for more information or to request a brochure.

ONE YEAR FILMMAKING PROGRAM:

The tuition for Semester One is US$12,000, and the tuition for Semester Two is $10,500.

In Semester One, expect to spend an additional $1,000 and up on film and processing. In Semester Two, expect to spend an additional $1,000 and up if your project is shot on digital video, $3,500 and up if shot on16mm, and $5,000 and up if you choose to shoot on 35mm.

The New York Film Academy’s One-Year Program gives students all the resources and instruction necessary to make their own films. Equivalent to at least two years of work at a traditional film school, the One-Year Program offers students at over 1,000 hours of hands-on instruction and actual production experience. To create the One-Year curriculum, NYFA has distilled the key ingredients of the most respected graduate and undergraduate film programs from around the world to provide an intensive year of learning and production. All One-Year students write, shoot, direct, and edit seven of their own short films, including a thesis sync-sound film and a digital film. They are introduced to 35mm cinematography, digital filmmaking and digital editing. Following the thesis production, each student will have one month to produce a documentary, music video or commercial to add to his or her portfolio. No previous filmmaking experience is required. However, participants must be prepared to work with self-discipline, energy, and mutual respect. About half NYFA students come from outside the US, and there are no exam requirements for admission. NYFA program is for people who have the passion to devote themselves to full-time filmmaking, but do not want to spend three or four years in a traditional film school. The program requires students to commit themselves to a focused and demanding curriculum for a full academic year. Students in the One-Year Program have access to the New York Film Academy’s equipment, including 35mm Panavision Motion Picture Cameras, 16mm Arriflex S and SR Motion Picture Cameras, Steenbeck Flatbed Editing Machines, Sony Digital Cameras, and Apple G-4 Final Cut Pro Digital Editing Stations, Lowell and Mole Richardson movie lights and gear, Elemack Spyder dollies, Nagra 4.2 and Sony DAT sound recorders and Sennheiser microphones.

But its not everything what Nyfa offers! During the summer you may take part in 4. 6 and 8 weeks long programs that take place in London, Paris, Florence and Sydney.
